The twins had been going through a huge unicorn phase and their birthday was right around the corner. I could not have been more excited when Allie agreed to make them twin unicorn cakes.

Camping at Lake Isabel 2021
It’s funny writing this post in January, when there is snow on the ground and I am cuddled up on the couch with a hot…
The Magical Sand Dunes
Tiffany and I had been talking about doing this trip for months, if not years. I think I brought up the idea of doing them at the Sand Dunes before she was even pregnant. I had this vision of these incredibly dramatic photos for a while and that vision totally came to life on this shoot. I mean, look at these!
Bad Owl Coffee – A Definitely Not Harry Potter-Themed Cafe in Vegas
Way back in 2016, the internet was very excited about a Harry Potter-themed cafe opening in Nevada near Vegas. It just so happened I was going to be in Vegas around the time it opened for a book convention. I managed to hitch a ride with a fellow Potter-loving fan and went to Bad Owl Coffee, where we were delighted with the delicious food and whimsical decor. Adam and I visited again in our May 2019 trip. Here’s what we thought about it!
Hunger Games: The Exhibition
Overall, the exhibit was wonderfully designed and put together. It was wonderfully quiet. As it was just beginning to open to the public, it hadn’t been largely discovered yet. This gave us the added benefit of everything being shiny and new.
California 2020 Wrap-Up
Whew! That was a hell of a trip!
The Best of the Rest: Bay Area 2020
On our second day there, we woke up very early to meet up with San Francisco’s best tour guide: my Uncle Richard. My uncle has lived in the Bay Area his entire life and he absolutely loves visiting San Francisco. He was kind enough to oblige us on whatever we wanted to do – which was mostly a bunch of touristy things we had done as children and wanted to relive. First, we were headed to Alcatraz.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
Overall, this play is a MUST SEE for any Harry Potter fan. It absolutely blew us away. We had seen Broadway’s Frozen just a week prior and that had impressed us. This was in an entirely different category of what I believed to be possible on stage. These tickets were not cheap, but I would happily throw down the money to go see it again if it ever comes to Denver. Adam, who is a more casual Harry Potter fan, would also pay to see it a second time. We were both positively dazzled.
The Best of the Rest – Southern California 2020
Disneyland isn’t the only spot we visit when we go on vacation to Southern California. We generally try to spread our Disney days out so we aren’t completely exhausted going several days in a row. We are very fortunate to have a place to stay close to the parks, because my Uncle Peter actually is an architect that does a lot of contracted work for Disneyland. This post is about the stuff we do in between our park days.
Kennedy Space Center 2019
In all these replicas and artifacts represent an important part of human history and it was a lot of fun getting to see some of these up close and in person. The men and women who were responsible for all these incredible achievements will hopefully be remembered for ages to come. To think we went from slide rules and hand worked equations to the supercomputers of today is still mind-boggling.
Universal Studios 2019
We considered these more like “Bonus Days” and I still think that is the right attitude when you are Disney fans who have Universal days in your schedule. There are pros and cons to Universal, but we did overall enjoy ourselves, though we weren’t too sad to leave it when it was time.
Review of Universal’s Sapphire Falls Resort
They definitely wooed us with their amenities. They know they are not Disney and even though this is considered their more “moderate” hotel, they treated us like they really cared if we came back and I deeply appreciate that.
