Exactly one year ago today, Adam and I left work early and flew to a magical trip for our first anniversary. The plan was to spend a week in southern California, where we would get 3 days in Disneyland, see Frozen the Broadway Musical, and enjoy some beach time. We would then fly to the Bay Area to visit some old haunts (both of us are originally from the area and moved to Colorado as preteens, though we didn’t meet until much later in life) and see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
That sounds extravagant, but we are very fortunate to always have a place to stay when visiting Disneyland (shout out to Uncle Peter) and we also had a place to crash in the Bay Area. As such, we had actually planned this to be a much smaller, scaled back, relatively cheap vacation. And then Rise of the Resistance happened… but more on that later!
In the end, this turned out to be a much larger, more expensive vacation than we had planned. We ended up eating at many incredible restaurants, bought plenty of souvenirs, and enjoyed our vacation to the fullest. Little did we know what challenges would await us later in 2020. I am so glad we went all out because looking back on this trip was a bright spot as we trudged our way through the rest of the year.
I have a goal to get the posts about this trip up in the next 10 days, so they correlate with the 1-year anniversaries of experiencing the events. Fingers-crossed I will be able to keep up with it!
GOAL UPDATE: I did not finish the 10 days in 10 days, but I did finish it by March 11, 2021 – which means I did it in under 2 months! Considering it took me over 2 years to finish my honeymoon, I am considering this a win!
Here is a sneak peek of the trip:
